The Nation Must Awake: Your Story is History - Dr. Martin-Young How is history carried by family members? Dr. Shelley Martin-Young examines this issue through the lens of her lived experience in Tulsa, discussing how those events impacted her family, surfaced issues of racism/bias and the work it takes to address them. You’ll explore how history is carried by family members, and ways of connecting personal experiences to public events. With over thirty years of K-12 experience including elementary classroom teacher, elementary librarian, and district technology coach, Dr. Shelley Martin-Young is a Lecturer at Oklahoma State University-Stillwater’s School of Teaching, Learning and Educational Sciences. Her research interests include using children’s and young adult literature to disrupt the single story of the history textbook and of course teaching the Tulsa Race Massacre. |
