Celtic Music with Brian Conway and Kieran Flanagan
Sunday, February 26, 2023, 2:00 PM

Hailing from Pearl River, New York, Kieran comes from a long line of well-known Irish musicians, namely his mother Rose Conway Flanagan and uncle Brian Conway. Having grown up in the house of an Irish music teacher, Kieran’s environment cultivated a deep appreciation and love for the music.

Brian Conway is one of the premier Irish fiddle players living in America. He performs with a skill, grace and force that are steeped in tradition but distinctively his own. Brian has won numerous All-Ireland fiddling competitions, including the prestigious All-Ireland senior championship. New York born, Brian is a leading exponent of the highly ornamented Sligo fiddling style made famous by the late Michael Coleman and passed on to him by legendary Martin Wynne and fiddle great Andy McGann. His talents have also been enthusiastically received all over North America and throughout Ireland and the rest of Europe.

Did you know.....

There is a "Book Nook" located next to the Computer Resource Center that houses an ongoing books for sale (please pay for these at Computer Resource Desk). There are also gift items on display that can be purchased at the 2nd Floor Circulation Desk.  Give a gift today! Support the Library!

There are two new Free Little Libraries located by the Children's Park in Memorial Park and by the Veterans Memorial Park that are stocked by the Friends with donated books. Working with Sadie on this Girl Scout project was a pleasure and a wonderful way for the Library to collaborate with another community organization.

There is a new Local History scholarship available to a  Nyack HS Senior made possible through funds from the Friends.  We are very honored to be able to help our local youth continue their educational journey.  For more information, please contact
Kat Sullivan in the Local History Department.

~Interesting fact about Nyack~
Berta and Elmer Hader moved to Grand-View-on-Hudson in 1919. They rented the old Lyall Hotel for $25 a month and lived there until the little stone house they built on River Road was ready to move into
in 1925. In that house they created the artwork for 91 books including their Caldecott Award winning The Big Snow. The Haders were dedicated to making children’s lives better, to preserving the beauty of the Hudson, to fostering conservation efforts and to forging incredible friendships. They lived a storybook life in a storybook house. Karen Tolley, director of Hader Connection and co-author of Berta and Elmer Hader: A Lifetime of Art, and Sybilla Cook, author of Drawn Together: A Biography of Berta and Elmer Hader (to be released in 2015), visited the Nyack Library in 2015.
(See picture above that also features FONL members Betty & Win Perry and Mary Anne Evangelist.)
To learn more about Berta and Elmer please  visit www.haderconnection.com.
Visit the Historical Society of the Nyacks located at the Depew House, 50 Piermont Ave.
