Interested in becoming a volunteer?

The Nyack Library welcomes teen volunteers in grades 6-12. Volunteers help with tasks such as preparing crafts, assisting in programs, and keeping the library clean and orderly.  We do our best to accommodate as many volunteers as possible, however, there are a limited number of volunteer positions available. We recommend that applicants apply as far in advance of any deadlines as possible. Priority is given to teens who live in the Nyack School District

We’ll review your idea and let you know if it works.

BOOK TALK REVIEW VIDEO:
Create a short video recommending a book you’ve read and enjoyed. In your video, share the book’s title and author, give a quick overview of what it’s about, and explain what you liked about it. You can keep it simple or get creative with music, images, and text.  Videos should be 1–3 minutes long. Submissions may be posted on the Library’s YouTube channel or Reels. If you use music, images, graphics, or other media, be sure everything is copyright-free.
• Volunteers will be credited with 2 hours of volunteer credit with their submission.
• Only two book talk review submissions per volunteer per quarter.

TEEN ROOM PLAYLIST:
Teens can create their own playlists to be played in the Teen Room during selected times. Playlists should be at least 20 songs long, with no more than two songs by the same artist, and must be free of explicit content. Please submit your playlist as a document and be sure to list each song title and artist exactly as they appear.

• Volunteers will be credited with 1 hour of volunteer credit with their submission.
• Only one playlist submission per volunteer per quarter.

BOOK/CHARACTER THEMED PLAYLIST:
After reading a book, teens can create a playlist inspired by the story, themes, or characters. The music should connect clearly to the book and reflect its overall vibe. Playlists must be based on a YA (Young Adult) book, include at least 15 songs, feature no more than one song per artist, and contain no explicit content. Please submit your playlist as a document, listing each song title and artist exactly as they appear.
• Volunteers will be credited 1 hour of volunteer credit with their submission.
• Only two playlist submissions per volunteer per quarter.

BOOK TRAILER VIDEO:
Create a short video that works like a movie trailer—but for a book. Your goal is to grab attention and give just enough information to help viewers decide if it’s a story they’d want to read.  You can keep it simple or get creative with music, images, and text. Videos should be 1–3 minutes long and may be shared on the Library’s YouTube channel or Reels.  If you use music, images, graphics, or other media, make sure everything is copyright-free.
•  Volunteers will be credited with 2 hours of volunteer credit with their submission.
•  Only two trailer submissions per volunteer per quarter.

BOOK FIT CHECK:
Put together two different outfits that match the color schemes of two different book covers or match what a character wears in each story. Take a picture wearing the outfit and holding the book. Your image should be sized for posting to Instagram.

• Volunteers will be credited with 1 hour of volunteer credit with their submission.
• Only two submissions per volunteer per quarter.

INFORMATIVE OR FUNNY LIBRARY VIDEOS:
Create a short video about something related to the library. This could be informative—like showing off your favorite place to hang out or explaining how genre labels work—or fun and creative, inspired by library-style TikTok videos. If you go the funny route, be sure your video is respectful and considerate of others using the library.  You can keep it simple or add music, images, and text. Videos should be 1–3 minutes long and may be shared on the Library’s YouTube channel or Reels.  If you include music, images, graphics, or other media, make sure everything is copyright-free.
•  Volunteers will be credited with 2 hours of volunteer credit with their submission.
•  Only two video submissions per volunteer per quarter.
