Welcome to the Computer Resource Center!
Here at the CRC we offer high speed Internet access, word processing and printing for Nyack Library card holders and other members of the Ramapo-Catskill Library System (RCLS). We offer guest access for those without library cards for a small fee. The computers are available to adults and may be used by young adults in grade 6 and higher when teen room computers are unavailable. Younger children may use computers in the Children's Room.
The CRC offers low-cost color and black-and-white printing via our high-speed Konica-Minolta C352 copier/printer. You can make copies in color or black-and-white on our C352 copier/printer, as well as use it to scan documents directly to an email address.
All 24 of our computers offer internet access via Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox and all are installed with Windows 2010 Standard Version software which includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Desktop Publisher.
There are some basic rules that we ask customers to observe to enable all CRC users equal opportunity to use the CRC's computers:
- In general, only one user at a computer at a time.
- Please keep your voices down. Please minimize talking in the active area of the CRC and try to keep your cell phone use down. If you need to speak with a friend, or use your cell phone for a longer dialog please go outside of the CRC so as not to disturb others.
- The CRC is not a playground! No running in the CRC and no bouncing between friends using the CRC computers. This is a very disruptive activity and cannot be tolerated in the CRC.
- Be respectful of the CRC Attendant. The CRC Attendant is the authority in the room. Disobedience of CRC Attendant trying to enforce the above rules is, in itself, grounds for ejections from the CRC.
Computer Classes
The Nyack Library offers two types of computer classes for beginners each month. No experience is necessary for either class, just enthusiasm! Please call the Reference Desk at 358-3370, Ext. 226 for more information or to register. Check our newsletter or online calendar for specific dates.
- Our Hands-On Computer Basics class is held once a month on a Friday morning at 9:00 am. Each participant will sit at a computer to learn the basics of Windows XP, as well as how to use a keyboard and a mouse.
- Our Introduction to the Internet class is held once a month at 1:30 pm. This class is a presentation of basic Internet terminology and searching.
